VI Almond Gala in Oria
This Saturday, the Oria Town Council will recognise residents, groups and companies.

The event is part of the special programme ‘Land of Almonds’ which includes cooking workshops, hiking, children’s activities and promotion.

This Saturday, the Oria Town Council will recognise seven people, groups and companies of the municipality who make the town great, who work daily in the promotion and development of Oria. This is explained by the councillor for culture, tourism and sports, Antonio Torrente, who heads the organisation of this special programme which is now in its sixth year and which, year after year, has been adding activities and followers from different parts of the province of Almería.

«They are people, companies and groups that boost our economy, give visibility to the town of Oria, people who work every day, many of them anonymously, but who do very important work for the region of Almanzora» Torrente explains to La Comarca Noticias.

The Gala of the Almond 2023 will recognise the following:

Born in 2010, due to the need to share and disseminate new agronomic techniques that were being implemented in almond growing; pruning training, harvesting, varieties, planting frames, cultivation operations… With an essential research and dissemination work also, through its Youtube channel Todo Almendro Channel.

UPA Almeria

The union » Union of Small Farmers» is fully integrated in the activity of the municipality, with 350 members in Oria. Special mention to FADEMUR, which works in rural areas for equal treatment and opportunities between women and men.

AMPA «Castellón de Olías».

Founded on 26 February 1992 under the name of Association of Parents San Gregorio, it was not until 9 September of the same year that it was formally registered in the Andalusian Register of Associations. The current name of the association is «Castellón de Olías» Parents’ Association, which plays a fundamental role, especially in the extracurricular activities within the municipality and for its involvement in the traditions of the village.

A resident of the municipality who has demonstrated in his short career a great entrepreneurial determination based on effort and respect for his roots.

A young farmer who, at the age of 25, manages, together with his family, several farms with a total of more than 60 hectares, dedicated to the cultivation of more than 6 varieties of almond trees which, in a normal year, yield a harvest of 35,000 kilos, all of them organic.

He is also the owner of the company Naturvicel, through which he markets ‘Doña Manuela’ honey.

Juan García Galera

A keen clay pigeon shooter, he has taken part in competitions at all levels. He wanted to bring this passion to his neighbours and in 1991 he founded the La Media Legua Shooting Club.

The existence of this shooting range meant a very important leap for the municipality in terms of sporting activities. He also received recognition for his intense and multifaceted working and commercial life in the town.

Caserío Lo Bulle

A benchmark rural accommodation. Caserío Lo Bulle, owned by Jorge Martínez, is self-sufficient and is committed to ecotourism and the use of resources together with technological innovation.

In recent years, Caserío Lo Bulle has been featured in numerous publications, specialised websites, social networks, tourism fairs and tourist magazines.

LaSolana2 EVOO

At the end of the 90’s, Cristóbal Sánchez Arán, promoted the origins of the current AOVE La Solana2 with the determination to produce extra virgin olive oil of the highest quality and to do so organically. With a five-hectare estate in the Campo Cisnares area, he grows, harvests, bottles and markets AVOE LaSolana2.

The event will start at six o’clock in the evening at El Pósito. From then on, guests will begin to arrive for a gala presented by the journalist Paqui Martínez, accompanied by the music of Guillermo Fernández and, as a finishing touch, attendees will be able to taste local products, courtesy of the Oria Town Hall.

This event is part of the ‘Oria Tierra de Almendros’ programme which will take place throughout the first fortnight of March and which has included workshops on healthy cooking with almonds, a hiking route, sports ginkana, almond and AVOE tasting in the catering establishments of the municipality and ‘Cuentos en flor’ with the students of the San Gregorio School which will be held next Tuesday, 14th March.
