The Civil Guard has arrested two men aged 29 and 32 as alleged perpetrators of at least five robberies with violence and intimidation in Totana (Murcia), according to sources from the Benemérita in a statement.
The operation, called ‘Drie’, started last January, when the Armed Forces learned of a robbery with violence committed against a neighbour in the street by two individuals.
Other assaults in subsequent weeks led investigators to suspect that the same people could be behind these new offences.
The Guardia Civil found that the modus operandi coincided. The robberies were committed at night when the victims were returning to their homes, which led them to believe that they carried out previous surveillance tasks to select their targets when they left local entertainment venues.
They generally approached their victims from behind and beat them violently to leave them dazed and unable to respond, taking advantage of this circumstance to take any valuables they had on them.
Thanks to the collaboration of citizens, the Guardia Civil was outlining a first physical profile of the suspects, which allowed them to focus the investigation on two residents of the municipality with a history of other violent crimes.
Operation ‘Drie’ has culminated with the location and arrest of two men, Moroccan nationality, as alleged perpetrators of five crimes of robbery with violence and intimidation.
The detainees and the proceedings have been handed over to the Totana Magistrates’ Court, which has ordered the remand in custody of the arrested men.
