The regional government will extend the sports facilities on the University of Murcia campus in San Javier.

The regional government of Murcia will extend the sports facilities on the campus of the University of Murcia in San JavierThe regional government, through the Regional Ministries of the Presidency, Tourism, Culture, Youth, Sports and Spokesperson, and the Environment, Mar Menor, Universities and Research, with the collaboration of the University of Murcia (UMU) and the City Council of San Javier, will expand the sports facilities on the campus in this town.

The proposal includes the construction of a new pavilion with its changing rooms, equipped with sports equipment, as well as mobile stands and the urbanisation of the plot and two multi-purpose teaching rooms for the University. The aim is to ensure that the activity of the university campus continues to generate significant economic activity and social benefits, both for the Region of Murcia and for the municipality of San Javier and the entire Mar Menor region.

The Faculty of Sports Sciences of the UMU at the San Javier Campus has six official degrees: a degree in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences; a master’s degree in Research in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences; a double degree in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences and Human Nutrition and Dietetics; a double degree in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences and Primary Education; a double master’s degree in Research in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences and Teacher Training, specialising in Physical Education; and a doctorate in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences. In addition to this, there are the different lifelong learning courses, under the format of the University of Murcia’s own specialisation studies.

The start of the two new joint degrees will imply a significant increase in the university population over the next six years, with a notable increase in the number of hours of theoretical teaching and sports practice.

This was one of the aspects analysed at the meeting held today between the councillors, Marcos Ortuño and Juan María Vázquez, the rector of the UMU, José Luján, and the mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo.
