Macael has been one of the localities that have benefited from the subsidies granted by the Andalusian Regional Government.

The Regional Ministry of Justice, Local Administration and Public Administration allocates almost one million euros to help local councils in the province to repair affected public infrastructures

A total of 19 municipalities in Almeria have received aid of up to 120,000 euros to repair damage to public infrastructure caused by natural disasters such as storms or floods, within the framework of the subsidy line of the Regional Ministry of Justice, Local Administration and the Civil Service. This year, the Junta has earmarked 911,530.72 euros to collaborate with town councils in the province affected by meteorological phenomena to restore retaining walls, repair roads, sewage and lighting networks or public buildings where basic services are provided to the public.

Each municipality can apply for funds for one or more actions, up to the maximum amount set, which has enabled a total of 35 works to be financed. These interventions have allowed local entities to repair public infrastructures damaged by natural disasters that occurred between 1 January 2021 and 12 June 2022.

Almería is the province with the second highest number of local authorities receiving this aid. Specifically, the beneficiary municipalities are Tíjola, Bacares, Serón, Tahal, Albanchez, Macael, Enix, Benizalón, Láujar de Andarax, Zurgena, Laroya, Senés, Lubrín, Fiñana, María, Suflí, Tabernas, Olula de Castro and Ohanes.

In order to speed up processing and ensure that the resources reach the municipal coffers as soon as possible, the Regional Ministry of Justice, Local Administration and Public Administration has established in the rules that these grants are non-competitive.

Likewise, the initial budget for these subsidies in the current financial year has been increased in accordance with needs. To this end, the initial appropriation, which was 2.9 million euros, has been increased twice, reaching five million euros, which has enabled 67 Andalusian local councils to receive aid.

The Regional Ministry of Justice, Local Administration and Public Administration is thus demonstrating its commitment to municipalism, based on institutional loyalty and cooperation, helping town councils to overcome the funding problems that often arise in situations such as natural disasters.

The local councils are the closest administration to the citizens and the first door to which the neighbours knock to ask for solutions. The Junta de Andalucía’s commitment is to place all available resources at their disposal to help them re-establish public services that have been affected by this type of emergency. For this reason, this line of subsidies is maintained in the 2023 budget with four million euros.
