In October 2022, the Director General of Railway Planning and Evaluation (in response to the initiative of the association Friends of the Railway Baza Region and the platform Guadix Region for the Train on the Informative Study for the reopening of the Guadix Baza Almanzora Lorca railway line) stated that Phase 0 «Preliminary study of technical, environmental and economic feasibility», which should have been completed at the beginning of the summer, «accumulated delays in the compilation of the necessary information, but that there are plans to make up this time during the execution of the following phases of the study». Now, in mid-March 2023, again at the initiative of these railway collectives through the Transparency Portal, Casimiro Iglesias Pérez repeats the argument, admitting that «Delays continue in the collection of the necessary information and the delay in the completion of this phase», say in a press release the aforementioned groups.
Friends of the Railway of the Baza Region and Guadix Region for the Train denounce these unjustified delays of nine months, especially when the same period (9 months) is left for the informative study to be completely finished in all its phases.
Both groups have immediately contacted the Minister of Transport and the Delegate of the Central Government in Andalusia to demand that the delays cease and urge the prompt and successful completion of the work on the Informative Study for the reopening, so that it can be sent immediately to the European Union and thus access the aforementioned qualified funding. Likewise, it asks these public authorities to include the reopening of the Guadix Baza Almanzora Lorca railway line in the Trans-European Transport Network and in the route of the European rail corridors.
