The Agricultural Employment Promotion Plan, managed by the Almeria Provincial Council, is creating more than 4,500 jobs and improving municipal infrastructures in three municipalities in the province: Olula del Río, Laroya and Vélez-Blanco.
The projects being carried out in these municipalities represent an important boost for employment, the economy and the improvement of municipal infrastructures with the aim of continuing to equalise opportunities. Specifically, these three municipalities will receive an investment of around 500,000 euros for projects to improve services and public spaces that would otherwise be very difficult to carry out.
The deputy of the PFEA, Matilde Díaz, has visited the municipality of Laroya to see ‘in situ’ the evolution of the works and projects that are being carried out through this plan, which is a real lifeline for the municipalities of the interior.

In this sense, the deputy pointed out that «the PFEA is a valuable example of institutional collaboration in favour of the municipalities between the Junta de Andalucía, the Government of Spain, the municipalities and the Provincial Council. It guarantees employment in municipalities with fewer resources and an investment that becomes essential for the maintenance and improvement of public services».
More than 100,000 euros in Laroya
The municipality of Laroya has received 100,000 euros of investment which has enabled the creation of 880 jobs and the execution of three very important projects. The Stable Employment Plan has made it possible to carry out works to renovate the Bar-Museum of the Municipality, where the cladding has been replaced, the kitchen has been enlarged and waste rooms have been created, a new bar and new access to the toilets.
On the other hand, work is already underway on Calle La Era de Laroya, where the current paving is being replaced and basic facilities are being improved, as well as aesthetic and accessibility improvements. The project to improve public spaces will include more than 100 gardening and painting works.
Vélez-Blanco: Dumpers Course and three projects
Velez-Blanco has hosted this year’s PFEA dumper driving courses for employees and is benefiting from three projects worth 230,000 euros.
The project ‘Obras Puntuales en Vélez-Blanco’, which is currently underway, is enabling works to be carried out in the town centre (Placeta de Calle San Marcial and San Lázaro – the latter completed) as well as in Topares (Paving and Installations in San Isidro Street), and in the town of Vélez-Blanco (Paving and Installations in San Isidro Street).
Similarly, thanks to the Stable Employment Plan project, improvements are being made to the Pinar del Rey Recreational Area, where the toilets are being refurbished and the exterior accesses are being transformed.
The Environmental Maintenance project will carry out gardening, painting, irrigation systems and cleaning work.
1,500 day jobs for four projects in Olula del Río
In Olula del Río, the four projects are generating 1,500 day jobs and more than 170,000 € of investment. Under the General Scheme, a project is being carried out to improve the squares of La Cruz and Venecia, consisting of actions that will improve accessibility and the urbanisation of these squares.
In addition, in this municipality, improvements have already been made to the outdoor area of the CEIP Trina Rull primary school, where 351 square metres of gravel have been replaced, as well as another 31 metres of deteriorated terrazzo. Similarly, in this municipality, improvements are being carried out in the Civil Guard Barracks with demolition and construction of partition walls, plumbing works, masonry and the provision of basic services.
Finally, the PFEA workers are also executing the project for the Improvement of Public Spaces with maintenance of gardens and green areas, cleaning of roads, streets and river, and painting.
