The City Council of Cartagena, through the Department of Citizen Participation, led by Francisca Martinez, has launched works in neighbourhoods and districts for a total of 420,000 euros thanks to the Neighbourhood Plan promoted for this year by the Autonomous Community. These works are in addition to those already planned and planned, such as the repairs to the athletics track for 250,000 euros and the rehabilitation of the Casa Rubio in El Algar for the same amount.
Specifically, the 420,000 euros will be used to undertake five projects in four districts in general and in the towns of Tentegorra, San Antón and Alumbres. According to municipal sources, the planned projects, which have already been awarded and are underway, will enable the renovation of street furniture in districts 1, 2, 6 and 7, which include the north, east and west of the municipality, covering localities such as Canteras, Perín, La Azohía, Pozo Estrecho, El Albujón, La Palma, La Puebla, El Algar, El Beal, La Manga and the villages of the Mar Menor. There, benches, litter bins, bollards, picnic tables, chairs and other elements will be placed in the squares with an investment of 77,696.03 euros. For these same districts, the renovation of asphalt has been contracted for a total of 200,000 euros.
The most specific works that have recently been awarded focus on San Antón, Alumbres and Tentegorra. In the neighbourhood, with an investment of 46,585 euros, accessibility works will be carried out, which will consist of improving the pavement with printed concrete on a single platform in the streets Posada, Salud and Revuelta. In addition, the installation of horizontal signposting is planned for Calle Andújar. This is, as indicated by the council, a demand made by the residents to the government team by the residents’ association of the neighbourhood.

In Alumbres, 47,437 euros will also be spent on improving the paving and Hidrogea will renovate the supply pipes in Calle Sagrado Corazón de Jesús and Calle La Palma.
Finally, in Tentegorra, the streets Avenida del Portús and Paseo del Canal are being repaired with high-strength trowelled concrete, with an investment of 47,909 euros.
Other investments
And they are not the only works planned or launched recently by the City Council, as municipal sources noted that Hidrogea is completing work on the renovation of sewerage networks in nine streets of El Algar, for an amount of 354,000 euros. The work covers the streets Antonio Rubio, Sagasta, Martín Solano, Castelar, Escultura, General Aznar, Libertad, Rentero Vargas and Manuel Antón in El Algar. These are works to modernise the water infrastructure and, at the same time, renovate the paving of the streets around the church and the Casa Rubio, the project includes the modernisation of the drinking water supply network, as well as the rainwater drainage system.
Other small projects are also being carried out in other districts. In El Llano, El Estrecho and El Beal, 36,532 euros have been invested to improve road safety. It is a project promoted by the Municipal Council of the area and financed by Citizen Participation. In the case of El Beal, the pavement will be lowered for access to a square; in El Estrecho, the construction of sections of pavement in three streets; and in El Llano, next to the social club, an access ramp will be built in a park to connect with the pavement.
Finally, through the La Palma Neighbourhood Council, two squares are being adapted, in front of the cemetery and in Los Pérez, for an amount of 27,237 euros.
These works are currently underway and are aimed at improving accessibility in various areas of the municipality that are far from the city centre and the Ensanche.
