On the occasion of “Train Day”, three hundred male and female students from secondary schools in the regions of Baza and Almanzora Valley have demanded the reopening of the Guadix-Baza-Almanzora-Lorca railway line at the old Caniles station. . The event has been organized by the “Student Platform for the Return of the Train”, with the support of the Friends of the Comarca de Baza Railway Association.
In a day of inter-center coexistence, the students were made aware of the rich railway heritage that remains on the old route of the railway line, which closed almost forty years ago, as well as the benefits that the return of the train would bring to the area and for its residents. For example, the improvement of connectivity between these regions and of them with the outside world, the creation of jobs, greater travel options or the reduction of polluting emissions into the atmosphere.
During the activities, representatives from each of the participating centers participated, reading texts prepared by the students for the event. Likewise, a short explanatory tour has been carried out through the railway environment with the canilera station itself, the old sugar factory “Our Lady of Mercedes” or the iconic iron bridge from the late 19th century.

Highlight the collaboration, in addition to the different secondary schools, Civil Protection and the Caniles City Council, with three of its councilors participating in the activities, and who have donated water and fruit for the supplies of the participants.
