San Javier hosts the Service for the Promotion of Personal Autonomy offered through the portfolio of dependency services of the Region of Murcia.

AFA Levante is the entity accredited by IMAS to manage this free service in the municipality for people accredited with levels I and II of dependency.

The Service for the Promotion of Personal Autonomy, SEPAP, which is offered within the Dependency portfolio of the Region of Murcia, is now available in the municipality of San Javier where it is successfully managed by AFA Levante, an entity which received the corresponding accreditation last April. The councillor for Social Rights and Family, María del Mar Pérez and the manager of AFA Levante, Rubén Nieto, today presented this service which has a wide range of professionals to help users to recover or maintain their personal autonomy.

The service, which is offered at the Santiago de la Ribera Municipal Centre for the Elderly, where AFA Levante has a branch which cares for people affected by Alzheimer’s disease, is aimed at any elderly person who is recognised as being physically or cognitively dependent at levels I and II, referring to people who need help with various daily activities but who do not yet require permanent support from a carer. Rubén Nieto explained that this service covers those people «who decide to avoid being placed in a residence or day centre in order to spend more time at home».

The service is already running from Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 13:00h although this timetable can be adapted to the needs of the users, explained Rubén Nieto. The technicians, who include physiotherapists, speech therapists, nurses and occupational therapists, among others, are coordinated to offer individualised treatment through an individual therapeutic plan that is carried out at the beginning according to the needs of each user. The service, which is also offered privately, is public and free of charge for those who opt for it through the dependency portfolio, once they have been recognised as having degrees I and II. Those interested in accessing or finding out more details of this service can do so through the Social Services Centre and through AFA Levante on 968 12 60 81.

Councillor María del Mar Pérez underlined «the great support that this service provides for users and families» and highlighted the proximity of the service for users in the municipality, as it will be offered at the Santiago de la Ribera Senior Citizens’ Centre. The councillor also highlighted the solvency of AFA Levante, which for years has been offering support and specialised care for people with Alzheimer’s disease in a centre provided by the San Javier Town Council in Santiago de la Ribera.
