Olula del Río has been the municipality chosen to launch the Circuit of Popular Races 2024 of the Provincial Council of Almería. The runners Mohamed Koula and María Gádor Cabrera were proclaimed absolute sellers of the first appointment of the most participative sports programme promoted by the Provincial Council of Almería.
A total of 223 participants took part in the two races, one for adults and the other for children, which is gaining more and more followers every year in the Circuito de Carreras Populares.
The race, which took place on Saturday afternoon, started at 5.30 p.m. with the children’s race as a prelude to the big race which ran through the main streets of the town of Almanzora. During the 9,960 metre course, refreshment posts and a medical assistance service were set up to ensure the protection of all participants.
Present at the prize-giving ceremony and the start were the provincial deputy for Sports, José Antonio García, and the councillor for Sports of the Olula del Río Town Council, Francisco José Garrido.
José Antonio García said that this is the start of a Circuit that «fulfils the Diputación’s objectives of promoting sport, boosting the tourist and commercial activity of the municipalities and which also has an important component of socialisation and coexistence».
The host municipalities this year are Olula del Río, Bédar, Sorbas, María, Cuevas del Almanzora, Turre, Garrucha, Balanegra, Abla, Tíjola, Vera, Rioja, Macael, etc.
