Fines presents the 72nd edition of the Spanish Sportive Pigeon Championship

On Wednesday morning the presentation of the 72nd edition of the Spanish Sport Pigeon Championship, Copa Su Majestad el Rey, took place.
Thanks to the efforts of the Club San Esteban de Fines and the support of the local Town Hall together with the Andalusian Federation of this sport and the Royal Spanish Federation of Pigeon Fanciers, it has been possible for a competition of this nature to be brought back to Andalusia after 19 years.
Twenty pigeons from Andalusian breeders – 10 of them will qualify for the regional competition which is being held in Olula del Río – and up to 100 birds from all over the country will compete from 7th May to 1st June, in a discipline which has a high level of enthusiasm in the area.
At the presentation ceremony, the Mayor, Rodrigo Sánchez, welcomed the delegation from the Colombiculture Federation and highlighted the efforts of the San Esteban Club who “keep alive the passion for racing pigeons”.
For Rafael Martínez, president of the Andalusian Pigeon Fanciers Federation, “we are proud to celebrate this 72nd championship in Fines. After 19 years we have achieved it. My most sincere thanks to those who have put their trust in the Andalusian federation and the San Esteban club, without whom this would not be possible. I am sure that we are going to have a championship that will be remembered for a long time to come”.
José Vicente Cervellón, vice-president of the Royal Spanish Pigeon Fanciers’ Federation, underlined that “this is the most important pigeon fanciers’ sporting event in our country. We are working with the Andalusian federation to ensure a good championship, which we have no doubt will be successful due to the experience we all have in this sport. We thank the town hall for their involvement, the Andalusian federation and the San Esteban club”.
José Antonio Serrano Molina, president of the San Esteban Club, thanked “the support and involvement of everyone so that Fines can organise a championship of national reference”.
The presentation was also attended by Francisco Carrillo Fernández and Andrés Venteo, vice-president and member of the San Esteban club, José Luis Morató, manager of the Royal Spanish Columbiculture Federation and the councillors José Manuel López, Victoria Menchón Pedrosa, Juan Francisco Martínez Serrano and Ana Maldonado Serrano.
