The Provincial Council of Almeria has presented in the Patio de Luces the ambitious tourist sports program of Almeria Activa. The main objective of the program is to establish synergies between tourism, taking advantage of the excellent conditions that the province of Almeria has for the practice in the natural environment. In addition, this edition increases the offer with ten sporting events that will run through different areas of the province and different modalities such as cycling, triathlon, diving or ultra-distance, among others.
Thus with ‘Almería Activa’ is a response to the demands raised by the people of Almeria and visitors who demand excitement and adventure, in addition to meeting the demand of Almeria, as revealed by the vice president and deputy of Tourism, Fernando Gimenez, and the vice president and deputy of Sport, Jose Antonio Garcia, in the presentation of this new edition, where the ambassador of exception is the prestigious journalist Carlos de Andres.
The vice president and deputy of Tourism has pointed out that «today is a special day for the sport of the province, for athletes and for tourists, because today we present the most important sports program of the province that, at the same time, is also a tourist program because it covers points of great interest in the province. We have this year more reasons than ever to participate in ‘Almería Activa’ and visit ‘Costa de Almería’ because it is the edition that contains the largest number of tests in its history.»

For his part, the vice president and deputy of Sport, Youth and Healthy Living has indicated that «today we present one of the flagship programs of the area where we want to combine tourism and sport to value the sport tourism resources of the province of Almeria, which has many and quality.»
«The best possible way to publicize our province and its benefits is through sport. Therefore, from the Sports area of the Diputación de Almería we set ourselves some objectives with this sports programming as placing the province of Almería as one of the main destinations for active tourism on the national scene,» added García, who noted that «we are getting it because there are many editions and this year is the edition with more different disciplines and more events of Almería Activa. Another objective is to have a calendar so that all tourist agents can plan and design the tourist season with these sporting events».
Finally, the ambassador of exception has highlighted that «Almeria is a privileged province with distances of 50 kilometers can be in mountains of 2,000 meters and the sea. This year the offer of Almería Activa has increased with the realization of ten tests that are:
- La Indomable Uci Gravel (Gravel Bike). In Berja on April 20.
- Calar Alto Raid (MTB and Gravel Bike). In the Sierra de los Filabres on June 23.
- Descent of the Alto de Velefique (Downhill free raid). In Velefique from September 12 to 15.
- Las 4 Cimas (Road Bikes). In the Sierra de los Filabres. On September 28th.
- Cabo de Gata Triathlon (Triathlon). In Cabo de Gata, Nijar. October 19.
- Titan Desert Series Almeria (MTB Bike). In the Natural Park of Cabo de Gata and in the Sierra de Los Filabres from October 4 to 8.
- Underwater Adventure ‘Costa de Almería’ (Scuba Diving). In different areas of the coast of the province from October 10 to 13.
- Cabo de Gata Sup Festival (Paddle Surf). In San José, Níjar, on October 12.
- La Desértica (Ultradistance on foot and MTB). From Almería to Roquetas de Mar through Sierra de Alhamilla and Gádor on October 26.
- Ultra Marathon ‘Costa de Almería’ (Ultradistance on foot). In the Natural Park Cabo de Gata and Almeria on November 30.
