The municipality of Albox will host a Book Fair for the first time in its history. It was a commitment of the new government team in its aim to revitalise culture and offer the local residents quality proposals. The Plaza Mayor will be the setting for this cultural event, which has the vocation of consolidating itself as one of the most important fairs in the province of Almería.
It will begin on Book Day, Tuesday 23 April, and the programme will run until Saturday 27 April. Book presentations and signings with authors of national stature, storytellers, local authors, puppets, poetry, workshops and shows for all ages.
The Fair will open in style with authors such as Inocencio «Chencho» Arias, ambassador and countryman of the municipality, who will present his book «Esta España nuestra» at 7 p.m., just after the opening ceremony by the authorities and the children’s puppet show.
The journalist and writer Sheila Hernández will show with her book «Soy joven, no gilipollas» (I’m young, not an asshole) that you should never give up in the face of adversity in life, nor settle for what is predestined or stop trying to achieve projects and dreams. On 24 April at 7 p.m., the creator of @es.decirdiario will be signing her books.
On Friday, 26 April, the presentation of «Antes se secará la Tierra», the third novel by the well-known author, Fernando J. Múñez, also at 7 p.m., at the Fair’s stands set up in the Plaza Mayor.
The Albox Book Fair will also feature Estefanía Ruiz, who will present her erotic thriller «Mangata» on Saturday at 11.30 am.
Meetings with local authors, storyteller Paula Mandarina and storyteller Fran Pintadera. Workshops on bookmarks, story masks, clay with story characters and giant books complete an ambitious programme.
The mayoress of Albox, María del Mar Alfonso, is confident that this cultural proposal «is the seed of a great event that will be consolidated at a regional and provincial level». She also stresses that «this first edition already has very well-known and very special authors for our town, as is the case of Chencho Arias, who will be presenting his latest book on the opening day. This Book Fair will make us the epicentre of culture in the Almanzora Valley».
The first edition of this Fair will give a special role to the educational centres of the municipality. And many of the activities, especially those taking place in the morning, will have as special guests the children of the town. An example of this is the ‘Storytelling in English’. Or the Roald Dahl Show and the Intergenerational Talk, focused on the boys and girls of the town’s two secondary schools.
In addition, the town’s stationers will have their own stand at the Albox Book Fair, where visitors will be able to find all the publications they want, with special discounts for the Book Fair 2024.
