The works to extend the Garrucha seafront promenade are in their final stages and are expected to open to traffic at the beginning of next summer. The Government sub-delegate in Almería, José María Martín, has made a technical visit to the works being carried out by the Directorate General for the Coast and the Sea of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, which have a budget of 1.7 million euros and are currently at 85% completion. The work is being financed entirely by the Spanish Government’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan with Next Generation EU funds.
The new section of work runs between the castle of Jesús Nazareno and the border with the municipality of Garrucha. The works carried out involve the extension and creation of a new recreational area in front of the sea with a pedestrian area, playground and a park next to parking areas for the enjoyment of the residents of this town. Martín assured that «the works are progressing at a good pace and will be the continuation of the current Paseo Marítimo into the municipality of Mojácar». He added that «these works have met a neighbourhood demand for a solution to the final stretch of the promenade in this town in the Levante area of Almeria».
The work has created a large space 430 metres long and 50 metres wide in front of the castle and another area parallel to the road to connect with the two previous promenades. It also includes access stairs to the beach and a pedestrian ramp together with new accesses with a roundabout on the current AL-5105 road to allow the change of direction and access to the beach area. According to the project, areas with vegetation have been created and a fountain on the esplanade with water jets next to a children’s play area.

Also taking part in the visit were the mayor of this town, Pedro Zamora and councillors from the municipal corporation, technicians from the company carrying out the work and the provincial head of Costas in Almería, Enrique López.
