San Javier PP registers a motion against the Amnesty Law

The Municipal Group of the Popular Party in the Town Hall of San Javier has registered a motion against the proposal for an Amnesty Law which has been the subject of national debate. The initiative, presented by the group’s spokesman, Héctor Verdú Verdú, seeks to express the group’s firm rejection of this measure.

The motion argues that the 1977 Amnesty Law played a fundamental role in national reconciliation and the transition to democracy in Spain. However, it stresses that today, in a consolidated democracy such as Spain’s in 2023, the amnesty raises serious concerns in relation to fundamental principles of the rule of law.

The Partido Popular de San Javier points out that a generalised amnesty undermines basic principles such as the exclusivity of the judiciary to judge and apply the law equally, legal certainty and equality in the application of the law. Furthermore, it highlights that both the Court of Justice of the European Union and the European Court of Human Rights have pending rulings affecting Spain in relation to this issue.

The motion refers to recent events, such as the events in Catalonia in 2017, and accuses some leaders of trying to avoid action by the Spanish and European courts. In addition, it criticises the central government’s openness to the processing of an Amnesty Bill, which is considered unconstitutional and an attempt to circumvent legality controls.

In the agreements proposed in the motion, the Partido Popular of San Javier emphasises the rejection of any form of amnesty or generalised pardon, regardless of the nature of the crimes. It emphasises the importance of the rule of law as an expression of the will of the people and urges the majority parties to seek state agreements to avoid illegal conditions promoted by pro-independence groups.

The motion will be forwarded to various bodies, including the Presidency of the Government, the relevant ministries and parliamentary spokespersons in Congress and the Senate, as well as to the Governing Board of the FEMP.

The Partido Popular of San Javier reaffirms its commitment to the defence of democratic values and the rule of law and therefore provides a bus that will leave from the car park of the Pitín Stadium next Sunday September 24 to join the party event in Madrid, «In front of amnesty, equality». More information for the bus send whatsapp to 679 308 255.
