The Tenorio will be saved again, as it is every year as the Noche de Difuntos (Night of the Dead) approaches. The Councillor for Culture of San Javier, David Martínez, confirmed yesterday that Bishop José Manuel Lorca Planes will give his written backing to the cultural event in the cemetery, as was conveyed by the parish priest of San Javier after the meeting with the high prelate of the Diocese.
Although they had already received verbal authorisation from Lorca Planes last June to resume the visit between candles with sacred music through the cemetery, the Town Hall wanted to stop the criticism of the intervention in the cemetery with the written approval of the bishop.
With more than half of the tickets sold – in a total capacity of 1,500 seats – the criticism caused the meeting with the Tenorio to falter, although the cultural associations responded with a video in which they gave their support to the cultural event. With the letter that, as announced by the parish to the councillor, the bishop will send on Friday, Martinez shields the project, which begins with a visit to the necropolis from 20.30 to 21.30 hours, through a path marked by hundreds of candles, which no one can leave, set to sacred music by the choral Fernández Caballero, the Patnia choir, musicians from the Conservatory of San Javier, the Symphonic Band of San Javier and the Auroros de Las Torres de Cotillas. Then will begin the theatrical performance of the Tenorio, by the San Javier theatre group, with the participation of the San Javier ballet group, among other cultural associations, and the setting by the nativity scene makers.
