In the week of the International Day of Libraries, the Albox Town Council inaugurated the refurbishment of the ‘Poeta Juan Berbel’ Municipal Library, which has been carried out over the last few months.
Months of work have been carried out to transform it into a library adapted to the new times, without losing the qualities that characterise it.
The work carried out by the Town Council, with its own resources, consisted of a new layout of the building, with specific areas for children, a study area, reading rooms and a training room. The reading and lending room for books and audiovisual material has been modernised. And the young people of the community will now have a 24-hour study room on the ground floor, with independent access, which they can enter with their fingerprint. «The university students and pupils of our town asked us for a place where they could study in comfort and without time limits. From now on, they will have their own access to the study room through the back door, without anyone disturbing them, whenever they need it,» explains the Mayor of Albox, María del Mar Alfonso.

The ‘Poeta Juan Berbel’ Municipal Library will continue to be located in the heart of the municipality, in an emblematic building with no architectural barriers, better lighting, no humidity and new furniture. It will be an attractive and lively place that encourages reading and is also a place for meeting and learning, with numerous activities planned throughout the year. «Today’s event with local authors is the best way to start this new phase. Modern facilities, adapted to the new times and the needs of the neighbours. It is a space that meets all the requirements to become the cultural centre of our people,» said Alfonso.
The inauguration of the renovated building was attended by the Tierra de Esparto Cultural Association, represented by Ana Martínez Parra and Germana Fernández. The Orientalist writer Pedro Soler, the purchenero and author closely linked to the Albojense community, Luis Caparrós. There were also two children, Hilario and Pedro, who read poems prepared for the occasion by Juan José Ceba. It was an event that highlighted Almanzora’s writers and marked the beginning of a new phase for the refurbished ‘Poet Juan Berbel’ Municipal Library.
