The Provincial Council of Almería is celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Calar Alto by contributing to its dissemination among families in the province of Almería through guided tours. Thus, during the Family 2.0 programme, two visits have been scheduled for 2024. Although the first was a success in terms of attendance, the second will be held on 15 September.
During the Daytime Visit to the Observatory, families from the province have the opportunity to learn in a fun and entertaining way how this Unique Scientific-Technical Infrastructure (ICTS) works.
From this cathedral of science, you will be told about the discoveries made with these giant telescopes, such as the 3.5m telescope, the largest on the continent. The visit lasts approximately 2 hours and is guided by qualified and scientifically trained personnel.
Provincial deputy María Luisa Cruz has highlighted the support that the Provincial Council of Almería is making through the Familia 2.0 programme: “The most important thing is that they are receiving a great response from the public and that they are bringing families closer to the field of science and astronomy. The success of these activities shows that they are in demand and necessary.”
In parallel to this activity, Beekeeping for the Family has already been held with two sessions and registration is open for the visit to the Tabernas Solar Plant that will allow this scientific centre to be brought closer to Almeria families.
