The Andalusian Regional Government invests millions of euros in building and rehabilitating residential homes and day centres in the Almanzora region.

The Government delegate in Almería, Aránzazu Martín, has announced an investment of 30 million euros by the Junta de Andalucía for the construction and renovation of twenty day centres and residences for the elderly and disabled. This is an “unprecedented” investment through a line of aid financed with European funds Next Generation, whose provisional resolution was published last Tuesday by the Ministry of Social Inclusion, Youth, Families and Equality.

Aránzazu Martín pointed out that these 30 million euros are part of a total of 134 million that the Regional Government allocates to reinforce and improve the network of centres for the care of the elderly and disabled. “The initial allocation was 73.3 million euros, but, following the extension of the execution period until 2026, the Regional Government has decided to almost double the funds and make them available to local entities and the sector to improve the care of these vulnerable groups,” she stressed.

As regards the province of Almería, the total investment amounts to 39 million euros. The majority, 30 million, is provided by the Regional Government and the rest by the entities that have applied for this call for subsidies.

“Never in the history of the province of Almería has such a large-scale project been undertaken, a historic project that will serve to improve and strengthen the network of day-care and residential centres,” emphasised the delegate, who explained that the works “must be completed in June 2026 and there will be no possibility of extension”.

For his part, the territorial delegate for Social Inclusion, Youth, Families and Equality, Francisco González Bellido, has listed each of the 20 projects that benefit from these grants included in the provisional resolution.

Almeria’s projects

Specifically, work will be carried out at the residences in Tíjola, Benahadux, Lucainena de las Torres, Lúcar, Laujar de Andarax, Cantoria, Albox and at the Provincial Council residence. Also benefiting are the day centres in Vera, Macael, El Ejido, Los Gallardos, Olula del Río, Zurgena and Pulpí, as well as the centres and residences of various entities in the sector, such as FAAM, Down Almería, Asprodalba, the Almería Association for Brain Damage (Vivir), the Verdiblanca Provincial Association for People with Disabilities and Los Jardines de Cerca.

Once the provisional resolution has been published, the entities have a period of time to present the corresponding documentation. “The province of Almería has never had at its disposal such a large investment that will benefit the well-being of our most vulnerable people,” stressed González Bellido, who stressed that with this line of aid “elderly people and people with disabilities will have many more options to be cared for and with the guarantees that the renovation and construction of new centres entails.”

Finally, the territorial delegate stressed that this investment will make it easier for these resources to reach all regions with the ultimate goal of “improving care for those who need it most.”
