Thousands of devotees accompany La Pequeñica on her big day

Mass attendance throughout the weekend at the Pilgrimage of the Virgen del Saliente. Faithful came from all over Spain

Throughout the week, visits to the Sanctuary of Saliente have been constant, but this year, in addition, the day of the Virgin of Saliente fell on a Sunday and this September 8th it was celebrated in style in the municipality of Albox.
Despite the episodes of rain and wind that occurred yesterday Saturday afternoon and also at dawn, the inclement weather has not prevented hundreds of devotees from making the journey to reach Monte Roel. From early Saturday morning and throughout the night, numerous groups of families and friends made the almost twenty kilometers that separate the Plaza Mayor from the Sanctuary that houses the Patron Saint and perpetual mayor of Albox.

It fell on a weekend and it was noticeable. Nobody wanted to miss the opportunity to visit La Pequeñica. Many have taken advantage of the opportunity to travel even from different points of the Spanish geography. Some had not been able to attend for years, and this Sunday they were moved by their encounter with La Pequeñica.
Long live the Virgin of Saliente and the affection of the elderly and children who attended the Holy Mass. In addition, numerous authorities from all over the province, delegates, deputies, senators and parliamentarians from all political parties and the mayors of the rest of the province who have not missed their appointment with the Virgin one more year.

“I want to thank all the neighbours for having made such a special pilgrimage possible. Last night we saw the lanterns of hundreds of people climbing the hill of the Sanctuary. And throughout the day people continue to arrive to show their devotion to our Little One. Thanks to the neighbours, to the security forces, civil protection and of course, thank you, many thanks to the Patronato del Saliente because one more year they have done an unbeatable job” assures the mayor of Albox, María del Mar Alfonso.

The public transport provided by the city council with buses that have gone up and down throughout the weekend, has once again been a success. Until this Sunday morning, transport continued for the residents to attend the main events of the Patron Saint’s day. Holy Mass officiated by the parish priests of Almanzora, a procession along the Monte Roel esplanade and the blessing of La Pequeñica to the people of Albox.

Thus ends one of the most important religious festivals in the province. And they are already beginning to think about next year’s edition, which has been declared a Jubilee Year. «We are finishing today with the pilgrimage and we will continue working so that the Jubilee Year in 2025 is a very important celebration for all of us who love the Virgen del Saliente» concludes the mayor of Albox.
