The latest events in the municipality of Zurgena, which have resulted in one person being killed by a blow to the head with a hoe and a stabbing during the San Ramón Nonnato festivities, have provoked a reaction from the government team. In this regard, the Zurgena Town Council has held an extraordinary Local Security Board to address, among other things, the aforementioned events. The meeting was attended by the Secretary General of the Subdelegation of the Government, Juan Ramón Fernández, the Lieutenant Colonel of the Command of the Civil Guard in Almería, Miguel Martínez and the Mayor of Zurgena, Domingo Trabalón, together with other municipal officials and also the Chief of Police José Antonio Aliaga, Lieutenant José Manuel Bermúdez and Brigade Bonifacio Reche in command of the Zurgena post.
During the meeting, the authorities made a detailed assessment of the current situation and agreed on the implementation of measures to improve the safety of all residents. In this regard, an immediate increase in the presence of the Local Police and the Guardia Civil in the municipality has been announced, with the aim of reinforcing vigilance and prevention in the most sensitive areas. The mayor, Domingo Trabalón, wanted to send a message of calm to the citizens; «I want to assure all the residents of Zurgena that from the Town Hall, in coordination with the provincial authorities, we are taking all necessary measures to maintain security in our municipality. The protection of our residents is our priority, and we will spare no resources or efforts to ensure that Zurgena is a peaceful and safe town. «These are specific events that have generated concern among our neighbours who know that they live in a municipality with a very low crime rate,» said Mayor Domingo Trabalón in a conversation with La Comarca Noticias.
For his part, the lieutenant colonel of the Civil Guard in Almería, Miguel Martínez, stressed that patrols will be intensified and coordination between the security forces will be reinforced for a faster and more effective response to any incident. In addition, the Secretary General of the Subdelegation of the Government, Juan Ramón Fernández, reiterated the State’s commitment to the security of Zurgena and assured that there will be continuous monitoring of the situation. Among the measures agreed, the increase in patrols in both urban and rural areas stands out, as well as coordination with neighbours so that any risk situation is communicated immediately. The Town Council will also launch a public awareness campaign on the importance of neighbourhood collaboration in the prevention of incidents.
